ABK Pop-Up shop stocks products from various local makers, this weeks feature maker is Craig from Buck It Belts.
Cycling is more than a sport or a passion for former architect, Craig - it’s a lifestyle!
He chooses not to own a car and rather to ride a bike everywhere, regardless of the occasion. With a strong interest in both fashion and design, Craig has always enjoyed creating things by hand, so the inception of BUCK!T was a natural progression.
BUCK!T belts and accessories are handmade at Craig's studio in Adelaide from upcycled bicycle tyres of all colours and textures, resulting in a wide variety of styles. Some have come from pro-teams riding in the Tour Down Under and World Tour races.
As well as tyre-donations from cyclists, Craig has a network of bike shops across Adelaide that supply him with used tyres and tubulars, which he then scrubs and re-works.
“These handmade, up-cycled and unique accessories are an expression of my personality and my commitment to live a small-footprint lifestyle”. Craig takes pride in producing something that is individual and cannot be mass produced. Bicycle tyres go to landfill as recycling them is too difficult due to their high content of fabric & kevlar, with a relatively small proportion of rubber; so all of these products save tyres from the tip!
Since the inception of BUCK!T in 2012, the range has expanded to include unisex wristbands, watches, watch-straps and wallets; as well as earrings made from carbon fibre and other discarded bicycle parts.
It's sustainability you can wear!
